Ses origines italiennes traduisent son goût des stucs vénitiens et des effets marbrés. Blaise Bianchi est maître artisan d’art en peinture décorative, un virage qu’il prend à 37 ans après une formation classique  – père et frère carreleurs.

« J’ai eu envie d’un métier qui me ressemble, je suis parti à Bordeaux me former chez un maître compagnon charismatique et haut en couleur ». De lui, il apprend le beau geste, hier la chaux, le béton ciré ou le tadelakt, aujourd’hui les effets graphiques, demain d’autres techniques qu’il aime explorer et transmettre.

Ces savoir-faire, il les décline avec l’aval des équipes du château de Pau depuis quinze ans. Patines anciennes, animation des supports d’œuvres pour des expos, menuiseries à reprendre, les chantiers sont variés, « j’ai même fait un trompe-l’œil sur le donjon en brique pour masquer les tuyaux ». Chez les particuliers, il aime discuter « pour sentir le mode de vie, jauger si le client a besoin d’un univers relaxant ou dynamisant. » Un jour, un client lui laisse les clés de sa maison pendant deux mois : « C’est vous qui savez, alors faites ! » Une carte blanche qu’il a adorée illustrer. « Un peintre en décor, c’est un bureau avec plein de tiroirs à idées : je mémorise ce que je vois et je m’en sers » résume Blaise avec malice.

Artistic flair

His Italian origins explain his taste for Venetian stucco and marble effects. Blaise Bianchi is an Arts Master Craftsman in decorative painting, an option he took up after a standard training period – his brother and father were tile layers.

 “I wanted to do a job that really suited me, so I went to Bordeaux to train with a Master Craftsman as charismatic as he was colourful in character.”  There, He learned how to effortlessly apply the different materials; perhaps lime plaster, waxed concrete or tadelakt one day, graphics effects the next and then possibly other techniques that he likes to explore and pass on.

For the last fifteen years, under the approving scrutiny of the teams who look after the castle in Pau, he has been applying his wealth of know-how and skills to contribute to the upkeep of this historic monument. Giving an old sheen to things, creating bases to display works of art in exhibitions, repairing the woodwork, there is always something different to do; I even created a trompe l’oeil on the brickwork of the castle keep to camouflage the pipes.”    
When he works for customers in their homes, he likes to chat “to get a feel of their lifestyle, find out whether the customer needs a relaxing or energizing environment.”  A customer once left him the keys to his house for two months, saying: “You know what you’re doing, so I’ll let you get on with it!” A period of free rein that he thoroughly enjoyed illustrating. “A decorative painter is like a desk with lots of drawers full of ideas: I memorize what I see and then I use it,” comments Blaise mischievously.
