À Biarritz, dans le nouveau quartier Kléber, se cache un spa improbable où tout n’est que courbes et circonvolutions. Il y a du Stanley Kubrick dans ce temple de la zénitude pop psychédélique, du Lewis Carroll dans ce lieu dédié au bien-être corporel qui reçoit la lumière du jour à travers ses grandes baies vitrées, tout en douceur. 

Les auteurs de cette folie futuriste pensée en dédales d’intimité sont deux architectes locaux, Philippe Pastre et Patrice Gardera. Ils ont su interpréter le rêve d’une famille qui a grandi à Bidart et qu’ils connaissent bien. Tout a commencé dans la tête du chirurgien esthétique, le papa d’Anne Peres, la responsable du lieu « Il avait le projet de faire un spa adossé à son cabinet médical pour offrir un parcours de soin complet à ses patients. Il a d’abord fait appel à Aurélie Juillon, notre spa manager, qu’il connaissait depuis plus de 25 ans et avec qui déjà il travaillait. Très vite, je suis venue les rejoindre. » Pourtant la jeune fille nature aux grands yeux bleus, n’avait pas prévu ce changement de cap. « Plutôt bonne élève, après une prépa Math Sup et Math Spé, j’ai intégré Centrale Paris pour devenir ingénieur. J’ai eu la chance de faire mes stages dans deux grandes maisons : Ralph Lauren et L’Oréal. Ils m’ont permis d’acquérir une bonne vision du marché. » Forte de cette expérience, elle aide au lancement du spa durant sa dernière année d’école, faisant des allers-retours entre Paris et Biarritz. Pour finalement être définitivement aux cotés d’Aurélie. « Nous avons recruté ensemble de jeunes esthéticiennes, mis en place la carte des soins, choisi les marques avec lesquelles nous voulions collaborer : Thémaé aux principes actifs de quatre variétés de thé, les laboratoires Filorga, expert de l’anti-âge et Gamarde, une gamme de produits bio pour les peaux les plus sensibles et réactives. »

Détente et expertise

L’originalité de cet écrin étonnant, c’est qu’il a été conçu de manière à allier l’expertise médicale au confort du spa : « Les autres spas sont plutôt accès sur la détente. Nous, nous offrons aussi une expertise ». Ici, l’accent est mis sur les mille et un détails qui accompagnent l’accueil des clients, leur prise en charge et la réalisation des protocoles de soins ciblés sur la relaxation, l’hydratation, l’anti-âge et le post-opératoire. Tout est une invitation à un authentique voyage sensoriel. Bain japonais, douche horizontale, hammam, massages du corps et soins du visage plongent le visiteur dans un état de quiétude et de déconnection intégrale. Et pour aller encore plus loin, le Spa Alaena proposera d’ici la fin de l’année sa propre ligne de cosmétiques. « Ma maman est dermatologue et très engagée dans la démarche du bio depuis plusieurs années. C’est elle qui s’est occupée de la recherche d’ingrédients naturels hautement efficaces pour la création de notre marque qui alliera l’expertise médicale dans la formulation à la sécurité des ingrédients bio. Pour une cosmétique saine, sans compromis. Nous travaillons avec un laboratoire landais qui a les mêmes valeurs que nous. » Des valeurs partagées aussi par les deux sœurs d’Anne, Hélène, l’ainée, pharmacienne en Nouvelle-Calédonie et Alaia, la cadette, étudiante à HEC, qui n’hésitent pas à donner leur opinion quand il s’agit de prendre des décisions pour l’évolution de cette aventure. Et l’on comprend pourquoi lorsqu’on apprend que Alaena vient de ces trois prénoms. Un terme inventé par le papa. Sacrée famille.

Nothing but the feel-good factor

In Biarritz, the new Kléber quarter hides an unlikely looking spa, where everything is winding curves. There’s a hint of Stanley Kubrick in this psychedelic Zen temple, a bit of Lewis Carroll in this life-size rabbit warren dedicated to physical wellbeing, where the sun pours in through the large picture windows, bathing the rooms in soft light. 

The men behind this futuristic fantasy world, designed as a series of intimate labyrinths, are two local architects, Philippe Pastre and Patrice Gardera. They were able to take the dream of a family they know well- and that grew up in Bidart, and make it happen. The whole thing started in the mind of a plastic surgeon, Anne Peres’ father and manager of the spa. “He was thinking about creating a spa adjacent to his consulting rooms so that he could offer his patients a full care package. He started by consulting Aurélie Juillon, our spa manager. They’ve known each other for 25 years and have already worked together, and I soon joined them”.  Yet this genuine young lady with her big blue eyes had not planned this kind of career change. “I was a pretty good student, and after studying a preparatory course in advanced and specialist mathematics, I got into Centrale Paris to become an engineer. I was lucky enough to be able to do my work placements in two major companies: Ralph Lauren and L’Oréal, and that gave me a good idea of the market.” On the strength of this experience, she helped launch the spa during her final year of studies, shuttling back and forth between Paris and Biarritz, before finally ending up working alongside Aurélie. “Together we hired young beauticians, created the range of treatments and chose the brands we wanted to work with: Thémaé with active ingredients from four varieties of tea, the Filorga laboratories, experts in anti-ageing products and Gamarde, a range of organic products for the most sensitive skins.”

Relaxation and expertise

The innovative slant in this remarkable setting is that it was designed to combine medical expertise and the luxury of the spa: “other spas are more focused on relaxation, whereas we also offer expert advice.” At Alaena, the utmost attention is given to the thousands of little details involved in welcoming a client and taking care of them, and in the range of different treatment protocols specific to either relaxation, moisturizing, anti-ageing and post-operative care. Everything here is an invitation to an authentic journey of the senses. Japanese baths, horizontal showers, Turkish baths, body massages and facial care plunge spa-goers into a state of total calm where they can switch off completely. And to take things a step further, before the end of the year, Spa Alaena will offer its own line of cosmetics. “My Mum is a dermatologist and for years now she has been a fervent supporter of the organic movement. She was the one who took care of searching out highly effective natural ingredients to create our brand name products that will combine medical expertise in their formulation with the safety afforded by organic ingredients. The result is a healthy range of cosmetics, where compromise is not an option. We work with a laboratory in the Landes region that shares our values.” Values that are also shared by Anne’s two sisters; Hélène, the eldest, is a chemist in New Caledonia, and Alaia, the younger of the two, is a student at the HEC school of management. They are always ready to give their opinion when it comes to making decisions as to the next twist in the adventure, and it’s easy to understand why, when we discover that “Alaena” is a contraction of the three sisters’ names – a brand name that Daddy came up with. What a talented family.
