Styling hair to suit personalities and not just create a look

He is always on the go. Always looking for new projects. Anthony from the 1609 hair salon in Pau is also a talented businessman. This extremely gifted hairstylist created a buzz by taking over a spacious hair salon in Lons, Route de Bayonne, and entrusted the interior design to Grégory Grosse.

Its name? ‘IRO by 1609’, “because iro means coloring in Japanese”, says Anthony. I wanted Iro to be the little brother to my salon in the city center. I wanted to introduce quality to an industrial estate, where you generally expect to find just fast, cheap solutions.” The salon is designed like a Berlin loft space and its main asset is the large bay window that lets the light flood in, so that the stylists can perfect the finest details when it comes to styles and colors. The interior design is as tasteful as the first salon, along the same theme, with a touch of imagination here and there, reflecting the personality of Anthony and his right-hand man, David. “We have MG Rénov to thank for making our crazy ideas come to life. Greg knew how to create exactly what we wanted!” A wonderful wall fresco   composed of geometric OSB shapes arranged to form a splintered pattern, metal and wood furniture, hanging lights, khaki paint, a Chesterfield sofa, chairs by Starck and apple crates to hold the hair-styling products…the magic of this spacious universe is tangible and makes you feel good.

The art of customization

It’s in this haven of good taste where the atmosphere is light-hearted that Anthony and his team of expert stylists welcome customers looking for an exceptional service. “The added bonus,” he points out “is that even if you show up without an appointment, there’ll always be a stylist available.” In the pleasant setting, every last detail has been carefully thought out so that customers can relax and let go. Highlights, colors, cuts, Japanese facial massages, Anthony works with Schwarzkopf products and with Kevin Murphy, the excellent Australian brand of hair care products that contain neither sulfates nor paraben. When it comes to beards, he took an instant liking to My Bear Family, a Swedish brand presented in vintage packaging, whose products are almost exclusively hand crafted.  Always seeking out new training courses and inspiration in Paris or Prague, via Tony&Guy, TV studios, photo shoots and musicals, Anthony likes to keep his finger on the pulse. His buzz word is ‘perfection’, and his philosophy, to focus on people. And it works! Hence his latest idea, to develop make-up and nail care, “so that our customers feel special right to their fingertips!” he smiles.
